“The Sun Sessions” by Cory M. Coons

With more than three decades of professional performance and songwriting experience, Cory M. Coons continues to solidify his reputation as one of Canada’s most respected independent roots-rock voices. Hailing from Eastern Ontario, just south of Ottawa, Coons built his foundation performing throughout Canada and the United States in high-energy cover bands such as Heads Or Tales, Shake The Tree, and U.S., before launching his original band Tycoons in the early 2000s. As a solo artist, he has released multiple critically acclaimed albums and EPs while amassing over 380,000 Spotify streams worldwide.

Coons’ career achievements include working with legendary multi-platinum producer Ron Nevison (Heart, Bad Company, Survivor, Styx, Night Ranger) and earning recognition from prestigious organizations including the Josie Music Awards, International Singer-Songwriter Association, Los Angeles Music Awards, Producer’s Choice Honors, Radio Music Awards, and the World Songwriting Awards. His 2018 album The Long Road Home received a Josie Music Award nomination for Male Album of the Year, with numerous additional nominations and honors following in subsequent years.

Cory M. Coons has long been a torchbearer for heartfelt, guitar-driven storytelling, and with The Sun Sessions, the MTS Management Group artist delivers a project that feels both timeless and freshly inspired. Rooted firmly in the traditions of Americana and classic roots rock, this EP stands as a confident reminder of Coons’ enduring commitment to honest songwriting and organic musicianship.

It’s important to note that The Sun Sessions is entirely Coons’ own creation—separate from the iconic Elvis Presley recordings that share a similar title. Instead of revisiting history, Coons writes his own chapter, channeling the warmth, grit, and soul of roots-rock into a collection that feels personal and grounded.

From the first track, Coons’ signature style is unmistakable. His warm, slightly weathered vocals carry the kind of emotional credibility that only comes from lived experience. There’s a sincerity in his delivery that makes every lyric feel conversational yet poetic. The EP thrives on its stripped-back arrangements—rich acoustic guitars, steady percussion, and subtle melodic textures that allow the storytelling to take center stage.

The songwriting on The Sun Sessions is reflective without becoming heavy. Coons balances introspection with uplift, crafting songs that explore perseverance, love, personal growth, and the passage of time. His roots-rock sensibility shines through in the steady grooves and melodic hooks, while his singer-songwriter instincts ensure that each track carries a narrative core.

What elevates this release further is the thoughtful rollout. Initially launched as a digital EP under MTS Records, The Sun Sessions later received a physical CD edition—an increasingly rare and meaningful gesture in today’s streaming era. The CD version includes an exclusive bonus track, offering dedicated fans something tangible and unique. It’s a move that underscores Coons’ appreciation for his audience and the enduring value of physical music formats.

Production-wise, the EP maintains a polished yet unpretentious sound. There’s a warmth to the mix that mirrors the project’s title—like late afternoon sunlight filtering through a studio window. The instrumentation never overpowers; instead, it supports Coons’ voice and lyrical themes with tasteful restraint. The result is a cohesive body of work that feels intentional from start to finish.

As an artist under MTS Management Group, Coons continues to solidify his reputation as a dependable force in modern roots-rock. The Sun Sessions doesn’t rely on flash or trends. Instead, it leans into authenticity—strong songwriting, heartfelt vocals, and arrangements that honor the genre’s heritage while remaining contemporary.
