‘truce’ by Julia Kate

Sherman Oaks-born singer-songwriter Julia Kate returns with ‘truce’, a tender, introspective single that turns inward with quiet bravery. The 21-year-old Berklee College of Music student uses the track to explore the tension between self-perception and self-acceptance, ultimately choosing compassion over criticism in her relationship with her own body.

Written alongside longtime collaborator Nick Rosen, ‘truce’ came together quickly, with its lyrics pouring out in an honest rush before being shaped into a restrained, melody-led arrangement. The result places Julia’s voice and vulnerability at the forefront, allowing the emotional weight of the song to breathe. “‘truce came from realising how often I was at war with my own body,” explains Julia. “It’s not a song about loving yourself overnight, but it’s about deciding to stop being cruel to yourself when you look in the mirror.”

Rather than promising overnight self-love, the track captures something more nuanced: the decision to stop being unkind to yourself. She continues, “This song is me recognising that voice and asking it to quiet down, even just a little. Calling a truce doesn’t mean everything’s healed. It just means you’re choosing to stop fighting.”

Raised on the diaristic storytelling of Taylor Swift, the introspective poise of Lorde, and the hushed intensity of Billie Eilish, Julia has steadily built a catalogue defined by emotional specificity and unguarded lyricism. Her sound balances contemporary pop polish with a confessional core, drawing listeners into moments that feel deeply personal yet widely relatable.

Together with Rosen, Julia shaped not just the words but the emotional architecture of the song, constructing a melody that encompasses the weight of vulnerability without becoming saturated with it. After she laid down her vocals, Rosen worked his production magic, adding backing instruments that remain in your memory.
