”Live Today” by The Transits

An irrepressibly boisterous tune, ‘Live Today’ hits the spot with its irresistible hook and catchy melody. The local torchbearers of pop-punk, The Transits, are carving out an impressive and confident sound, showcasing their skills at crafting memorable and original pop-punk tunes, delivered with real fire. ‘Live Today’ is a high-energy, synth-laced anthem about embracing the moment with everything you’ve got. Blending hints of pop-punk urgency with shimmering electronic textures, the track captures the rush of acting on instinct and the clarity that comes when you finally pause to catch your breath.

Says the band: We wanted to write a song that feels like a deep breath and a sprint at the same time. ‘Live Today’ is about trusting the moment, even if it’s messy, even if it’s fast. Because sometimes that’s where the real living happens.”The accompanying music video for ‘Live Today’ brings the song’s themes of urgency, risk, and living in the moment to life through the gritty, high-octane world of dirt-track racing. Set deep within the sport’s subculture, it captures both the tension and exhilaration of going all-in, echoing the track’s emotional pulse with raw, visual energy.

Starring beloved New Zealand comedian and actor Tom Sainsbury, the video takes an unexpected and heartfelt turn. Sainsbury plays an eccentric but endearing racing manager – part mentor, part hype-man, and part emotional coach – whose quirky intensity keeps his star racer focused. Alongside him is actor Kate Simmonds, who delivers a powerful performance as a determined racer out to defy the odds and claim her moment of glory.

Balancing fun with grit, the video stays true to the spirit of The Transits: sincere, humorous, full of heart, and not afraid to lean into bold, offbeat storytelling. With its mix of underground aesthetics, comedy, and underdog energy, the ‘Live Today’ video is a fast, fun, and unforgettable companion to the track. As Dom Antelme explains: “We’re massive fans of Tom Sainsbury and his ability to play any character. He’s a legend, and we were incredibly stoked he said yes to starring in our video. Shooting this was tons of fun.”

Consisting of now Auckland-based band members Dom Antelme (vocals, bass) and Tyrone Smith (drums), with Ryan Lunn (vocals, guitars, synths, production) still based in Durban, the talented trio find the distance no issue as they effortlessly create their music remotely. Their compact, hard-hitting songs possessing catchy melodies, classic pop-punk songwriting, searing guitar hooks, and intricate production have grabbed media attention and yielded instant success for the trio.
