“Everybody Needs a Dog” by Spyderhuff

From Detroit, Spyderhuff has truly embraced the swampy, psychedelic blues-rock groove the band is known for. The EP features four tracks that are ideal for a late-night road trip or relaxing at a backyard barbecue. 1: “Come Take the Bones” 2: “Drag and Drop” 3: “Everybody Needs a Dog” 4: “Future.” The track weaves in and out of life’s issues, including ageing and burnout (Come Take the Bones), the angst of social media (Drag and Drop), human relationships gone awry and the unfailing healing nature of a loyal dog (Everybody Needs a Dog), and a glimpse of the future through a retro lens (Future).

The Spyderhuff musicians on this EP are Tom Kuhr (vocals, guitar, harmonica, sax, synthesizer), Don Beyer (bass, synthesizer), Joey Gaydos Sr. (guitar), Joey Gaydos Jr. (guitar), Tony Mitchell (congas and bongos), and James Carmichael Dooley (drums). Born and raised in the Detroit area, one is immersed in the history of the automobile. Ed ‘Spider’ Huff worked with Henry Ford when they were working at the Detroit Edison Power Plant in the 1890s. Ed was a self-taught genius in all things electrical and Henry would later use his talents in the development of the first ignition systems in all Ford automobiles. So the name is a tribute to all the unsung heroes found in hidden rooms of history who get the wheels turning and keep them turning.

With deep roots in Detroit, Spyderhuff loves bending and shaping musical genres, like bending and shaping metal to Motown. Most of the members grew up together in the Detroit area as friends and musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s, playing in bands ranging from jazz fusion to hard rock.
